Useful Insurance Jargon (Glossary of Terms)

Comprehensively Insured

If you are Comprehensively insured you must report the accident to your insurers if you haven’t done so already.

Under the terms of your insurance, your insurance company are able to deal with: -

- Authorisation and payment of repairs if your vehicle is repairable.
- Total loss value settlement if your vehicle is uneconomic to repair.
- Recovery & Storage charges settled.

Policy Excess

Under the terms of your insurance policy, it will be likely that you have to pay a policy excess. Payment of the policy excess is: -

- Paid by you to the repairer if your vehicle is repairable.
- Deducted from your total loss settlement.

N.B Orbit Fleet are able to pursue this from the Third Party Insurers.

Third Party (fire & theft) Insured.

If you are Third Party (fire & theft) Insured, you must report the accident to your insurers if you haven’t done so already.

However under the terms of your insurance policy, your own insurers will NOT deal with: -

- Repairs
- Total Loss settlement.
- Recovery & Storage charges.

As your insurance company will not deal with these items, Orbit Fleet are able to arange the following:-

Repairs

We are able to arrange for an independent engineer to assess your vehicle. If your vehicle is repairable we may be able to provide a credit repair (see below).

Total Loss

We will arrange for your vehicle to be inspected by a qualified motor engineer to detail an in depth report and valuation. If this valuation is approved, we will recover this value from the Third Party Insurers.

Recovery & Storage Charges

If your vehicle is accruing storage charges, we will include this as part of your other uninsured losses against the Third Party Insurers.

Repair

We will arrange for your vehicle to be inspected. Repairs will be authorised and payment will be made to the repairer direct.

VAT

If you are VAT registered you must pay the VAT immediately when asked to – the other party will not pay it. This VAT amount will form your input / output within your VAT return.

If you are NOT VAT registered, VAT is part of your claim against the other party.
